Description
Mark the 60th anniversary of RailEx Fareham with this exclusive 2026 special-edition 00-gauge coal wagon.
The model is based on the private-owner wagons of J. E. Smith (Portsmouth) Ltd, a Hampshire coal merchant established by James E. Smith in 1897. Smith began work as a coal carter in 1891 and developed a business serving Fratton, Gosport and Southsea, principally handling rail-borne coal. The firm was recorded at Fratton Siding, Goldsmith Avenue, Southsea, and later traded as J. E. Smith (Portsmouth) Ltd.
Historic records show that the company operated a substantial wagon fleet. A surviving photograph shows one of its wagons in a transfer goods train at Old Oak around 1930, while repair records and traffic notices help document the fleetās long working life.
Created especially for RailEx 2026, this anniversary edition carries the distinctive J. E. Smith & Sons-inspired livery, enhanced with a bold ā60ā to commemorate six decades of the exhibition.
Stock Limited to 118 Wagons
There will be no other run of these wagons.
It is a fitting RailEx Fareham souvenir and a characterful addition to any Southern-region goods train or private-owner wagon collection.
